the only good thing......

..........about being home with a very bad back, is that I'm getting some reading done. It turns out I have pulled a ligament in my back, which is twisting my spine slightly. So I'm home all this week - not that I can do much other than read! And now that daughter is better (March break over of course), youngest son is now down with the fever virus. Today we napped together on the couch all afternoon. All in all, the house is a disaster since I can't bend or twist or do much, but kids are getting comforted, and I'm getting books read :-D When I can manage it, I will be doing book reviews, but for now, sitting for longer than 20 mins at the computer is very painful, so I'll just be popping in and out for now.

Books read so far: Watchmen, finished. Book of a Thousand Days, finished. Briar Rose, Finished. Blue Girl, started.
Tylenol 3 taken: lots.
Doctor's note to stay home from work: priceless.
Back pain: how did people manage 100 years ago without tylenol etc?

Oh wow sorry to hear that. My very first day at my new college I threw my back out lifting some thing for my dorm. Talk about a way to make an impression... I am sure the people in my room thought I was a drug addict when I had to take Vicoden haha. But yes I got the whole twilight series re read while I was down for the count. Looking forward to the new reviews, hope you feel better soon!

Best Wishes. P&P

Well, I'm happy for you for all your reading time, but I am oh so very sorry that you're still in so much pain!!! Definitely not the #1 preferred way to score reading time.

Hope your son is feeling better soon, too! It sometimes seems impossible to have everyone healthy all at the same, doesn't it?

Chris: thanks - I will, both get better and enjoy my reading time! lol

Padfoot and Prongs: I'm sorry to hear that was how you started college! ouch. It's awful not being able to get comfortable, isn't it? But I know why you could read the whole twilight series!!! thanks for the good wishes :-D

zetor: me too, he's getting sicker so I'm more worried about him than me.

Deslily: lol I might just finish it before March is out! Actually I can't, I don't have a second non-fiction book of essays lying around, so everyone's safe for now lol I hope I don't catch his virus either, he's really sick with it. You take care, too!

shanra: welcome! I haven't seen you here before! thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes and healing vibes :-D I am slowly getting better.

Debi: You're right about not everyone being healthy at the same time! March Break was spent on the sofa with daughter - and my back - it passed in a blur. Today promises to be warm - ie above 0c!!! Hurray! - so I'm opening windows just so we can breathe fresh air and hear the birds :-D maybe that will blow the virus out lol

I imagine. And luckily you still feel well enough to read.
Did you like Book of 1000 Days? I loved that it was set in Mongolia.

Feel better and read lots!

I hope you feel better soon! And enjoy the books (I can not imagine what people did before painkillers. Get drunk?)

I'm really sorry to hear that you're in such pain. Thank goodness for painkillers! I hope you heal quickly and enjoy all the extra reading in the meantime. I posted The Reaper off to you this morning, hope it doesn't take too long to get to you. :-)

Ooo, Tylenol 3 for the pain and lots of reading. Life doesn't get much better than that, if one has to be "out of commission" for a while. Here's to a healthy back and kids, soon, though, because pain is no fun even reading can get tiresome after a while, if that's all you can do (I can't believe I just said that!).

Oh Susan :( I'm so so sorry! Though the idea of staying home reading is a lovely one, back pain is NO fun at all, I know. I really hope you feel better soon *hugs*

Now off to e-mail you about something that made me very very happy!

I found your blog via Zetor's blog. The title got my attention - I'm in full agreement!

Sorry to hear about the back pain. And your children being sick. Seems like everyone I know has kids who are sick with one bug or another right now. I hope you'll all be feeling well very soon. Enjoy your reading in the meantime : )

At least you are looking on the bright side. I do hope you start feeling better soon. Back problems are the worst. It's so hard to get comfortable.

I hope your son is feeling better soon too as well.

Kailana: I couldn't get on my computer until now (sunday night) to comment - that chair! - but thanks, and I wish I had managed to read more, but my youngest was home the whole time and needed care too. It's been a very long week!

staci: my husband finally did the housework today. I've been able to cook, but that's it. I think i would have been a total crybaby too, back then!

Stephanie: I will get to those reviews! thanks! and I remember you being off last year with back problems. I hope it's years before this happens again, I've decided it now. i like being able to bend and tie my shoes! It's amazing how much I drop when I can't pick it up :-0

mariel: thanks! I'm trying to make the most of it!

raidergirl3: lucky, isn't it? I really enjoyed Book of 1000 days; I still have to do my review of it. I loved the MOngolian aspect too, and the myths she brought in. and how it ties together. Very fun read!

jeane: I don't know what they did before painkillers. drank lots of willow tea, I suppose. I think they got bed rest. Alcohol would sound good though after a while of this!!! lol

Cath: yaay! I'll look for it at the end of the week. Sometimes post from England is amazingly fast. Thank you!!! I'll let you know when it arrives :-D That brought a smile to my face!!!

emily: I believe you, because since Wednesday I couldn't read anything! I'd fall asleep instead :-( thus my meltdown on Thursday night and subsequent visits by Bad Mother Remorse, and Guilt. I was tired of pain by then! An unwelcome visitor indeed. I'm even tired of Tylenol 3 now!

nymeth: thanks, and I know you understand! and i loved your email, as you know :-D

Mary: oh, I know, it's that time of year! my back pain doesn't usually go on for this long, this is unusual. And youngest son is still not quite himself yet. thanks for visiting and letting me know, I'll come visit your blog shortly. :-)

Molly: I haven't been able to blog about the award, though you know how happy I am to receive it! I think I left a comment on your post.....uh oh, the pain memories have blurred most of last week! I'll come check in a mo and see. thank you!!!

literary feline: thank you! we are both slowly mending; he's still coughing, and I still can't get quite comfortable. I'm so happy when I can stand without pain!!! lol

bybee: nooo! you don't want this one! not that there's good back pain, but if I were to share any sympathetically, it wouldn't be this episode. It's been one of the worst. you can share my sympathy guilt at making my husband by Drood and then not being able to read it yet after he carried it home! lol
