Happy Easter! Cake and I won at Monopoly, and April fool's day....

Happy Easter, dear book bloggers.  Above is a picture of the Easter cake I made this morning, from Nigella Lawson's cook book Feast.  Easter Egg Nest Cake.  Yum.  It's flourless, made with chocolate, eggs, sugar, and vanilla, with whipping cream and more chocolate for the icing.  MMMMMM.

The Dr Who comes from the game of Monopoly we played after Easter lunch.  Dr Who Monopoly was a Christmas gift we gave to our family this year.  It's quickly becoming a big hit with us.  Dr Who lives at our family....I will be doing a post shortly on just how much Dr Who is alive here.  But first: I won!  I won the game!  Usually I am the first loser (which as you know is the BIG loser of the game), or second last. I use the scarf (from 4th Doctor Tom Baker), which my daughter says is because I am like him.  In the picture below are my eldest son's girlfriend, my eldest son and youngest son next to him, then my husband and my daughter.  The cupcakes were brought by Heidi, a wonderful surprise and very delicious too.

Then, mother nature played a joke on us:

*sigh*  The temperature is going to plummet tonight, and very cold the next few days.

What Reading Time?
I haven't been able to read with getting ready for Easter (Easter hunt, two meals, etc), though I am reading Of Blood and Honey and enjoying it so far.  Now I wish I had a day to just read!!!  We are about to watch The Hobbit to round out the evening.

Still, I made sure the bunny was good to me:
Below is the book I bought for myself for Easter:  Candlenight by Phil Rickman.  It's his first novel published, and not available until recently.  It looks good, set in a remote Welsh Mountain village, with an ancient secret the villagers are hiding.  No one does atmospheric horror like Rickman.  Happy Easter, everyone!  I hope the bunny was good to you too!

Happy Easter to you too, Susan, though it's more or less over here in the UK. We have our grand-daughter here staying for a few days so I'm not reading much either! The cake looks beautiful. Our game has been Scrabble this Easter... I didn't even know there *was* a Dr. Who Monopoly. LOL. Thought the first ep on Saturday was excellent.

I preordered The Hobbit on Amazon last night. It's not out here until Monday. haven't seen it yet so I can't wait to get hold of it.

Happy Easter, Susan! It's lovely to see the pictures of your family, clearly having a fantastic time and congratulations on winning Monopoly - I am ALWAYS the first loser in that game! Very glad to see you have yourself an Easter treat. Don't tell Mr Litlove, but I did something similar....

Cath: Now you have to get the Dr Who Monopoly at some point! lol your granddaughter (and possibly) grandson would love to play it! I wonder what it is about Monopoly that kids love? I know as kids my brother and I especially loved to play it also.

Thanks for the compliments on my kids. They are all beautiful :-)

One week to go for The Hobbit for you! I still can't believe it's so much later for you. We really enjoyed watching it again last night. It is a good family movie, more action-packed for the younger crowd (ie youngsters too), and easier to watch than LoTR (though we love that too). Fingers crossed you get your copy a day or two earlier, as a treat!

litlove: Thank you! Usually I lose first or second two. I still can't quite believe how I won it. Which book did you treat yourself to? lol

Debi: We did! thanks :-) I think they are good looking too. I always end up being the picture taker at these things right now. Like you, I might add.....lol I dare you to post a picture of yourself on your blog!

Kathleen: thank you! And the cake was very good and very rich with chocolate. MMMMM WE finished it today - it's not quite as good the second day, the whipping cream icing sets, so in case you ever make it....

Your Dr. Who Monopoly game sounds like such fun! I never win at Monopoly, either - but maybe I should try the Dr. Who version :) It sounds like you had a fabulous Easter. Candlenight looks like a good, creepy read - my library doesn't have a print copy, but they do have an ebook copy so I've just put myself on the wait list. And your chocolate Easter cake! Oh my. I'll have to check out that Nigella recipe.

Yum! That cake looks really good. I hope you enjoyed it. It sounds like you had a nice Easter overall.

Congratulations on winning the game! I never win at Monopoly. Any kind of Monopoly. I'm really rather terrible at it. LOL

We're big Dr. Who fans here too, although we're behind in the show. I don't think we watched last season. I've been threatening to watch the show without my husband just so I can get caught up. I miss watching Dr. Who.

Belle: the Dr Who version is so much fun! The board has things from episodes all through the years. The six tokens are items from various doctors.

I'm so thrilled I could tempt you with Candlenight! You have to read his Merrily Waktins series too, which are fabulous - she's an Church of England exorcist reverend. Lots of atmosphere and ghostly hauntings.

Literary Feline: We have gone back to watch Dr Who from the very beginning, starting with William Hartnell, because the time between Christmas and this new half season was so long. We are having so much fun watching old Dr Who! I only saw the rare episode, so this is all new for me too.

YOu have to watch this season! And last season too.....You find out who River is. Among so many things.

It seems a lot of us are rather awful at Monopoly or winning, doesn't it? lol I still enjoy playing it, anyway.
