some good news

I am still - will for some time, I think - be mourning what happened in Newtown.  One of the things that is helping is all the love and forgiveness coming from the families, in the midst of grief, and focussing on the bright light of each child  and  the special gifts  and talents each child and adult brought into their families and the world.  It's healing, and it's helping.

So I thought I would share two pieces of very good news, personal news that I want to celebrate:
- our foundation is finally fixed.  Not all the foundation yet, it took us a long time to find a contractor we liked and were comfortable with.  So he was only able to get the hole and the garage door fixed, and not the rest of the house foundation, which has to be checked and the cracks filled (not many, but they do have to be fixed.)  That will wait for spring.  For now, it is such a huge relief to have the hole fixed, and the foundation under the hole sealed and waterproofed.  Especially as we have had 48 hours of snow, rain, freezing rain since Sunday, it's been so comforting to know our foundation is in much better shape now.
- my husband and I had separated last year, and I am very happy to say that this fall, we were able to find our way back together again.  So we are a family once more, and it is much better now than it was.  I am very happy and contented, and have learned a lot this past 16 months, about myself, about marriage, about love.

In this next week before Christmas, I want to slow down  and appreciate each moment of life. It is a gift, and loved ones are the most precious of gifts to us.

Oh Susan, that's GREAT news!!! I'm so happy for you!! I have a friend who actually was divorced from her husband and they're remarried now and it's like a brand new marriage she said…they learned a lot from their time apart. I hope that things continue to just KEEP looking up for you! You deserve the best!

I think I said on FB how delighted I am to hear the news about you and your husband. We need some good news with all that's going on in the world at the moment.

Also pleased that your foundations are fixed. Big relief I'm sure.

I too am slowing down this week, we're almost ready for the family to descend on Monday, just a few odd things still to do. I'm taking advantage of the slow-down and getting in some reading while I can. Thoroughly enjoying Drood. :-)

Chris: Thank you so much!!! You are always so supportive, no matter what. It is kind of like starting new, as well as knowing things about us from 11 years of marriage. I think it's better now - certainly, as your friend said too, we learned a lot from our time being separated. :-)

Cath: Thank you too so much! You helped a lot, as did your emails to me. And it is a big relief that our foundation is partially fixed, especially as we got over a foot of snow on Friday!

I hope you have a much calmer Christmas this year than last year, remember you had your daughter's operation didn't you, around this time? Did you get any reading in this past week? I've just started Drood, because of you and Pat! lol

Ana: Thank you! *hugs back* we both have had quite a year, haven't we? Have a lovely Christmas too, my friend, enjoy Christmas in England, it is something special and unique.

Stefanie: Thank you so much! We are certainly having much more fun this year with the tree and planning things and spending time together, and doing family things. Much more joy in our house this year! :-) I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too.

Daphne: Thank you so much. I have to respond to your email still, and I will! I need some downtime to write properly, just know that it was a wonderful one you sent me too :-) I am so glad that things are working out for both of us this year. It is so good to hear things are looking so much better for you now too :-) Time away is good, as you and I have both discovered! lol :-) I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too with your someone.

Yep, last Christmas was rather a difficult time, with our daughter's back op. This year it was much less fraught.

No, sadly I hardly had any time to read this week. I'm reading a book about a man walking part of the coast in Alaska. It's rather good and I'll be glad to get back to it at the weekend.

I'll be so interested to hear what you think of Drood. Seems people either love it or hate it. I understand why some don't like it... although it seems I liked it for all the reasons they didn't. Oh well...

Oh Susan -- I have been out of the blogosphere for far too long and I was sorry that I did not have the opportunity to lift you up during this difficult time. However, I am thrilled that I can celebrate with you this joyful new beginning. I am sure that it was a celebratory holiday at your house this year - and I wish you nothing but a prosperous and happy 2013.

Cath: I always think I am going to have time to read at Christmas, and this is the first year when I have had some time. Not as much as I wanted, but more than normal. We have kept it very quiet, just family time as we heal and come together again, and it's been wonderful. I'm glad your Christmas has been much calmer too :-)

I like what I've read in Drood so far! My problem is I only have the hardcover, which is much to heavy to lug around - it makes my back hurt fairly quickly. So I'm stuck reading it only at home. I really need to get the paperback size. Because I am enjoying it, I love how jealous Collins is of Dickens :-) and Drood is already creepy figure. I'm excited you loved it as much as Pat does, too.

Molly: Oh Molly, you have had such a difficult year! I am so happy to hear from you. I hope you have had a tranquil Christmas this year, and it was easier to get through this year. Thank you so much for letting me know you are still around, too. Are you going to keep your blog going? I hope so.....in any case, I wish you a happy and healthy 2013, and lots of time to do all your interests.
