Last week we talked about the books you liked best from 2007. So this week, what with it being a new year, and all, we’re looking forward….
What new books are you looking forward to most in 2008? Something new being published this year? Something you got as a gift for the holidays? Anything in particular that you’re planning to read in 2008 that you’re looking forward to? A classic, or maybe a best-seller from 2007 that you’re waiting to appear in paperback?

New books I am looking forward to reading (received as gifts for the holidays):
- Exit Music by Ian Rankin
- Widdershins by Charles de Lint
-Ysabel by Guy Gavriel Kay
- Something Rotten - Jasper Fforde
-The Remains of an Altar - Phil Rickman
-Fragile Things - Neil Gaiman
- By the Time You Read This - Giles Blount
- 1599 A Year in the LIfe of William Shakespeare - James Shapiro
- Farthing - Jo Walton
Except for the James Shapiro biography, the rest are authors that I read every year, and look for their new releases in paperback under the tree! These are some of my favourite authors, and I hope to find some of these will be books to treasure in years to come.
What new books am I looking forward to most this year? the latest in paperback by Janet Evanovich, Robin McKinley's Dragonhaven, and Emma Bull's Territory - all published in the fall of 2007 but I have not been able to pick up yet. I really want to read Inkheart by Cornelia Funke before it comes out in the movies!
I don't really know what is coming out this year, since I rarely buy in hardcover unless it's very special . I think I am most looking forward to reading the books in my challenges, since I have chosen them, and they are mostly books from my shelves. Reading the above books will mean the new year has arrived!

How lucky to have so many books by your favorite authors to read! Looks like a good stretch coming up for you.
I'm not familiar with many of them although I read Fragile things this fall for the RIP II.
Do you have a link to your comments on Fragile Thing? I think I remember reading some of your comments as you read them (for the Short Story Mondays, if I remember correctly)....I've just joined the Short Story challenge for this year, since so many of the books i want to read are short stories. Did you read Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman? I did a while ago, and recall enjoying it very much, but I can only recall one or two stories - the first one with the wedding (I was thinking of it this morning), and the one with the cat who fights the battles for the family. A very strange and wonderful writer, who always surprises....anyway, I think you and I are on alot of the same challenges this year! I check your blog regularly, though I am still learning how to reply to comments....I enjoy alot of what you write and read.
I hope the snow isn't too bad for you there, we don't have as much as Moncton, but a metre and a half is about our total for Dec and the New year here in Ottawa, which is all about to melt with sudden warm weather.
I think i might talk about some of the authors in a blog, then, since I know other people have said they've never heard of some of the authors (I keep giving Phil Rickman, for example, to people to try). Thanks! :-)
I shall be really interested in what you think of 'Farthing'. I thought it was a very interesting read in deed, but don't know anyone else who has read it.
