I'm afraid that as sci-fi geek I could complete the 42 challenge in the remaining months of this year alone, and then start a new one next year! lol what a fun, fun challenge for us!

rhinoa: thank you! And I went and read your review, I really liked it. You are much better at describing events in the book - the narrative - than I am! thanks so much for the link - I've added it, to mine.

jeane: thanks! I guess I want us to really discuss our books (if we want to), and some books are made for really thinking about.

chris: welcome! I've linked - thank you so much - and I see you've added mine already, which is great! And I really enjoyed your review. I think this is a really good book. I'm glad to finally meet you!!Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09095246748581382752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145452263098688113.post-1470959341951115592008-05-20T07:35:00.000-04:002008-05-20T07:35:00.000-04:00Hi, Bybee sent me. I remember well the book-banning aspect, war in the background, oppression of ideas- I didn't recall that it mentioned technology like what we use today. I enjoyed reading your in-depth review. It really made me think some more (particularly that I need to read this book again!)Jeanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02270303640902731044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145452263098688113.post-88093970212911484312008-05-20T06:18:00.000-04:002008-05-20T06:18:00.000-04:00What a great review! It is so hard to get anyone to say anything! and especially here in Canada, while the opposition politicians are forever asking when we will get out, we never really had an open debate about going in and what our purpose was. Certainly on the streets here in Ottawa, I have never had anyone speak openly about the war, or express any opinions about it, never mind not wanting to be there. It's kind of scary, actually. so I'm very glad to have your comments agreeing! thanks!Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09095246748581382752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145452263098688113.post-57996724532604594052008-05-19T21:58:00.000-04:002008-05-19T21:58:00.000-04:00It's been a while since I read this book and I don...It's been a while since I read this book and I don't remember a whole lot. I did like when you said "And while I hear promises that one day we will all be out of Iraq, I don't hear any active discussion, debate, no active dissent any more. No one seems to have an opinion, or if they do, it is quickly hushed up." I couldn't agree more. For all the fun people make of the hippies of the 60s, at least people seemed to care.John Mutfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08730205221787092204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145452263098688113.post-32465685244591168822008-05-19T21:47:00.000-04:002008-05-19T21:47:00.000-04:00becky: thanks! chris: wow, thanks! and I agree...becky: thanks!

chris: wow, thanks! and I agree about it being banned, it's so ridiculous. Have you read his added note at the back of the book (from 1979, I think), where various readers wrote in with differing opinions on how he should change the book/characters/events? He was so outraged.....he is such a great writer, isn't he? A way with words that no one else has.

nymeth: thank you!! you and chris are making me blush again! I had such a hard time with this review, I didn't want to give anything away, and I was so impressed and moved by the book and the quality of the writing and storytelling and visionary aspects.

bybee: I can't remember when I read it, but I don't think it was for school either. You and I got stuck with Catcher in the Rye, which I read one page of and threw across the room, I hated it so much! I think I did Ernest Hemingway that year instead! Is your son with you in Korea? Hmm, that wouldn't be the book you accidentally sold on him either, would it? :-P

lady p: you went to Bangor!! Wah, I've wanted to go ever since Stephen King put it on the map! what was the bookstore named? And hey - at least you thought about buying some books!!! :-)Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09095246748581382752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145452263098688113.post-53652967885897026972008-05-19T09:00:00.000-04:002008-05-19T09:00:00.000-04:00Hey-ho another one I've never read. It's a pity that I didn't make my "must read" list last week because I was at a great bookstore in Bangor Maine and was cursing myself for not having a list of books I wanted to read from your blog & those who read yours.

Oh well, daughter got lots of clothes and shoes and so benefitted from me not buying all kinds of books!Patriciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11256567414059449423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145452263098688113.post-46601430671232211642008-05-19T02:37:00.000-04:002008-05-19T02:37:00.000-04:00Would you believe I didn't get this book in high s...Would you believe I didn't get this book in high school? I'm so glad that you enjoyed it all over again :) It certainly is a powerful book and it's what started my love for Ray Bradbury's writing. He writes such amazing stories and this one remains relevant...and I think it's so comical that this book was banned...isn't that ridiculous??? I think it's ridiculous that books get banned in general, but that's a whole different topic!chrisa511https://www.blogger.com/profile/05793512698366676453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145452263098688113.post-37146310146159277432008-05-18T10:26:00.000-04:002008-05-18T10:26:00.000-04:00I agree!
